A new direction

Sorry for the lack of posting. Roll down to ~1.1k, frustrated by short term variance and crappy Party software meaning I can no longer even 9-table SnGs. I have a new plan, to casino-bonus-whore my roll to give it a much needed boost. Should be starting soon.

Also, finished the night shift, give it a couple of days and I'll feel human again!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

Quick session

Another set of 4 today. Pathetic volume, but I think I will have to keep it this way until I move into halls in September. I just don't have time for serious grinding at the moment. Having said that, I fully intend on doing 4 hours on Sunday and 6 hours on Monday night. In sets of 4 though, the focus continues to be improvement of my game, not bankroll building.

Good session today, same results as yesterday. 1,2 and 2 OTM.

Had a really interesting JJ situation. The SB is a proven extreme donk, and I thought that given he will call my shove w/ whatever garbage he has, I can take the fact that I am behind MP1s range.

Back to SnGs

After enjoying myself playing MTTs and donking around in cash games, I've spent the last couple of days trying to move up to $22 SnGs, as promised in my last blog. Well, it didn't start to well, yesterday's results:

Played - 8
ITM - 0%
ROI - -100%
Net profit - -$176.

So, again as promised, I analysed my play more thoroughly than I ever have before. I found that I was playing some of my best SnGs to date, my push/fold was spot on, my early level play was solid. 8 is such a tiny sample size in these turbos so I just have to accept it and chalk it up as variance.

Today was much more promising...

Played - 4
ITM - 50%
ROI - 81%
Net profit - $72

So a first and a second. It's frustrating to be playing such a small volume, but I feel like I am really learning and thinking about every decision as I am playing. Over time, hopefully still at the $22s, I will add tables, first to 6, then 1 by 1 to 9. Again, self analysis showed I am playing very solid poker, a couple of slightly wayward pushes but nothing to worry about. I will probably only play 4 or 8 again tomorrow, will post results and then the week results on Tuesday morning.

On a positive note, I have nearly finished working nights! 8 days to go :D

Poor day

Had a disappointing day today. I think my recent MTT results have caused me to lose focus, both the positive and the negative. I tried a couple of Stars Sunday Million qualifiers today, no doubt an attempt to redeem myself for stupidly bubbling on Party. I tried a $2.20 triple shootout and a $3 rebuy, but did not progress far in either (that said, I reached the second round of the shooutout and got HU, sadly with an 8:1 chip deposit. 44 meets KK, the end.) I also played in a $22 FO at Party, which had an interesting hand which I feel I played badly. The bigstack had been limping incessantlyand I failed to make a decision on the flop.

I never really recovered from that. I think I needed to take the free card on the flop, cbetting vs. 2 opps was hardly a good idea when this shortstacked. Once he raised, I really thought I was facing a bluff but for some reason I failed to pull the trigger. I think I have 10 outs vs. AJ, and FE as there was a lot of blkuffing in his range. Still, another lesson learnt.

I also had a bit of fun with my new account on VCPoker. I was messing around with a £6 signup bonus, playing cash and HUSnGs. I realise now how badly I suck at cash games. My preflop is fine, possibly even good at 6-max as I'm not afraid to 3-bet light in the right places. But post-flop I just have no clue what I am doing, other than never slowplay! That just makes me bet all the time though, I need to work out how to get away from hands. Still, I made it all back in the HUSnGs, and even made 13p profit!

All this makes me think I'm losing focus though. I think I need to improve my SnG game, so my next few sessions will be 4-tabling $22s (yes, $22s!) and then reviewing each set of 4 before I try again. I think that will really help me improve instead of just mindlessly grinding. I lost ~ $35 today and I'm completely unsatisfied. Yes I had fun while I was doing it, and I learnt some lessons, but I need to refocus and make sure that bankroll continues to rise!

Out 6th

Finished 6/159 for $92.22, 88 vs. T7 sooooooted. Can't blame him for calling,I only had 5BBs and I'd been pushing pretty wide vs. him earlier, it was BvB and he had the stack to take it. Knew I had to wait for the cards, but lost anyway, gg.

I was short coming into the FT (again) after an interesting hand. I put opp on Ax, two kings on board and flush came on river. I bet 8K into 13K pot, he called with A6. Terrible call obviously, maybe had I been paying more attention I would have noticed what a horrible calling station he was and wouldn't have bet.

I think I played the FT well, there were 5 stacks 10bbs or lower, so I knew that if I played relatively tight considering precarious stack size, there was a chance I could rise up the prize pool. It worked, and I made my move when I had to.

I'm really pleased with my recent MTT scores, it looks like my mid-game is coming together nicely and it's good to reach so many final tables in such a short space of time. I mustn't let myself get overconfident though, I need to keep concentrating and playing at my best.

Bubbled $215

Played a $3 rebuy entry into Party's guaranteed $300k tourney today. I played really well I think, until there were 6 players left. At that time I decided it would be a good idea to start shoving into the player to my right, who had 130k. I had ~ 136k, and the shorty had 80K. I needed the blinds, yes, but this player wasn't good enough to resteal, so I could have 2.5BB raised and usually got the same result. I feel like an idiot, I shoved, was crippled and bubbled. So massively -EV, I'm a retard.

Currently ITM in the same $11 I played yesterday. Slightly bigger field, 159 entrants. I'm just above average w/ 15 left. Hopefully 2 FTs in 2days of the same event. We shall see. I may even make back my rebuy money! (2 rebuys 1 add on = $10.20)

Nice results

Came in 3rd in a $11 MTT last night. Only 140 entrants, so just $142, but it always feels good to reach a final table. This was my second final table in a week, as I also came on 3rd in a 68 man $22 recently. Not bad seeing as I've only played 4, but it's just an upswing and I have to take the bad times too. I'm a little frustrated not to have taken one of them down though, the prize jump between 3-2-1 is huge. Can't complain though, as when I came into this FT I had 5k chips (started with 3k!), and the average was 40k!

While I feel like I generally played like a complete donkey, I think I played this hand well

Villain is 40/20/5, so I can see him betting ATC here. Looks like the perfect board to bluff raise. (Sorry is this mega standard, I'm learning not to play like a donktard!)

Also had a very good night in the STTs, up $150 in only 20 games. Should have played more, but the ole' laptop was having a hissy fit, so I had to go down to 4 tables and eventually give up and play my tourney. Looks like that was a good decision in the end though :)
